Jharkhand Education is centered around the examinations conducted under the State Boards, Universities and Colleges. Jharkhand Madarsa Examination Board, Jharkhand Intermediate Exams Board, Jharkhand Secondary Examination Board, the Universities and Colleges comprise the education in Jharkhand.
Literacy rate in Jharkhand has seen upward trend and is 66.41 percent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 76.84 percent while female literacy is at 52.04 percent. In 2001, literacy rate in Jharkhand stood at 53.56 percent of which male and female were 63.83 percent and 38.87 percent literate respectively.
In Jharkhand, education starts at the age of 5, when the children are admitted to schools. The schools, which form the basis of education at Jharkhand, are affiliated to either the State Board or CBSE or ICSE. It is noteworthy that the government schools in Jharkhand are vernacular medium schools, where Hindi is the medium of instruction. Besides, the government schools, Education department of Jharkhand also consists of English medium schools.
In order to improve the prospects of education at Jharkhand, the Government has launched the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, thereby consolidating primary education to all up to the age of 14. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is an extensive scheme adopted by the Government and is carried out to universalize primary education in every nook and corner of the state.
Besides, the Government of Jharkhand is also working towards strengthening the basic format of education of Jharkhand.

Jharkhand Academic Council(JAC):
The State of Jharkhand came into existence on the 15th of November,2000 . An Act to establish the Jharkhand Academic Council was enacted by the Jharkhand State Legislature and assented to by the Governor of the State on 26.12.2003, which was known as Jharkhand Academic Council Act 02.7.2003.
The Jharkhand Academic Council was established for holding and conducting examinations at the end of Intermediate, Education, Secondary Education, Sanskrit Education and Madrasa Education and for prescribing courses of studies for such examinations and for recommending for recognition of Intermediate Educational Institutions, High Schools, Sanskrit Schools and Madrasas to the State Government and for carrying out such other or duties assigned to the council by the State Govt from time to time.
Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC):
The 86th Constitutional Amendment Act 2002 made education a Fundamental Right for children in the age group of 6-14 years by providing that "the State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years in such manner as the State may, by law, determine".Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has been one such initiative of Government of India. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is an effort to universalize elementary education by community-ownership of the school system.
State Board of Technical Education (SBTE):
The State Board of Technical Education came into existence just after the creation of Jharkhand for establishment and monitoring of Technical institutions. The Board is responsible for formulating new courses and Developing Curricula besides working for advancement of Technical Education and Research work. The board is responsible to conduct examination, provide certification and advise the State Government regarding the development of Technical Education and Art&crafts.
The State Board of Technical Education Jharkhand, Ranchi is under the administrative control of the Dep't of Science & Technology, Government of Jharkhand. Since its formation the board is striving continuously for betterment of academic standard of Polytechnics and Women Industrial School (WIS) of this State. The board has introduced the Semester system from the session 2009-10, and updated the curricula in all the Polytechnics.

Education for Foreign students -DASA Scheme
As per the DASA or Direct Admission to Students Abroad scheme, there are few well known seats of learning that offer an opportunity to NRI students. Two such institutes in the state of Jharkhand include National Institute of Technology or NIT Jamshedpur and National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology in Ranchi Jharkhand’s capital city.
The DASA scheme introduced by the government makes it possible for innumerable foreign students to pursue academic programs in the field of engineering and technology in India.
